Becoming an MS Pro

Make a difference to the lives of people with Multiple Sclerosis

Multiple Sclerosis affects more than 150,000 people in the UK – and that number is growing by around 2.4% every year. The UK has one of the highest prevalence rates of MS in the world, with approximately 158 cases per 100,000 people.

Emerging research shows that exercise has disease-modifying potential in MS. Aerobic and strength training have been shown to reduce neuro-inflammation, protect axons, and slow both clinical and pathological disease progression. Medication alone is not enough.

EXERCISE IS MEDICINE.

You play an important role in ensuring adequate exercise provision for people with MS

By becoming an MS Pro you will unlock the skills to effectively support individuals with Multiple Sclerosis through exercise. Our live, online course equips exercise and healthcare professionals with the knowledge and tools to deliver MS-specific exercise, grounded in the latest scientific and medical guidelines.

You’ll learn the recommended exercise doses for aerobic, strength, balance and mobility work, how to scale exercise across the full EDSS disability spectrum (0–9.0), and practical tips for managing the unique challenges MS presents – from heat intolerance and fatigue to coordination difficulties. Whether you’re working with newly diagnosed clients or those with advanced disability, this course will empower you to make a meaningful impact on their symptoms, function, and quality of life.

The MS Pro Course is delivered in 3 modules

Module 1 – Knowledge Is Power

Understanding Multiple Sclerosis

In this foundational module, we explore what Multiple Sclerosis is, how it affects the central nervous system, and the most common symptoms exercise professionals need to recognise. You’ll gain a comprehensive understanding of the neurophysiology behind MS — including the role of myelin, axons, and neuroplasticity.

We cover the different types of MS (RRMS, PPMS, SPMS, CIS, and RIS), known causes and risk factors, and both the visible and invisible symptoms that shape each person’s experience. By the end of this module, you’ll understand why exercise is critical — not just for symptom relief, but through the release of BDNF (Brain-Derived Neurotrophic Factor) and the power of neuroplasticity.

Module 2 – Exercise is Medicine

Applying MS-Specific Exercise Guidelines

This module dives into the science behind the “Exercise is Medicine” philosophy, detailing the latest evidence-based recommendations for exercise in MS management. Learn the specific types, intensities, and frequencies that make the biggest difference for people living with MS.

You’ll also learn how to measure and monitor intensity using the Borg RPE (1–10) scale, and critically, how to scale and modify exercise across the full Expanded Disability Status Scale (EDSS 0–9.0) — ensuring every client receives safe, effective and appropriately challenging exercise. Practical case study breakouts included.

Module 3 – Exercise for Life

Making an Exercise Habit

People with MS face unique barriers to exercise – fatigue, heat sensitivity, motivation, and physical limitations among them. In this module, we help you understand and overcome them. You’ll explore the habit-formation system, built around six pillars: Goals, Systems, Schedule, Tracking, Accountability, and Reward.

From designing inclusive and adaptive programmes to knowing when and how to refer clients to other healthcare professionals, this module prepares you to provide long-term, impactful support. We also address the most common FAQs – heat intolerance management, fatigue pacing, and coordination difficulties.
