Anthony Barnes

Anthony Barnes

Director

Anthony brings over 30 years of experience in the fitness industry and more than 25 years teaching and delivering exercise science and fitness-based courses. Throughout his career, he has worked with diverse clients—from young professional athletes to beginners, across all ages and abilities. A fully qualified Level 3 Personal Trainer and APT Exercise Referral Specialist, Anthony holds numerous condition-specific and disability-focused exercise qualifications, including specialist training in Exercise for Long-Term Neurological Conditions through The Wright Foundation. This expertise enables him to confidently support clients with complex health needs such as amputation, stroke, cerebral palsy, Parkinson’s disease, and other neurological conditions.

Beyond client work, Anthony is highly experienced in education and training. He teaches and assesses personal training and exercise courses regionally and nationwide, currently working with SGS College in the South-West and delivering courses for Health and Fitness Education (HFE) across the UK. He also supports clinical services through his work with the Bristol Centre of Enablement (BCE) and Freeways Hydrotherapy. Anthony’s approach is rooted in empathy, expertise, and a commitment to helping every client achieve meaningful, functional progress—whatever their starting point.

Maria Lewis

Maria Lewis

Director

Maria Lewis is a specialist physiotherapist in Parkinson’s disease, with over 10 years’ experience working exclusively with people living with Parkinson’s. She is the co-founder of Reach Your Peak, a physiotherapy-led online exercise community dedicated to empowering people with Parkinson’s to live active, fulfilling lives.

As both an educator and clinician, Maria is the lead contributor and author of the CIMSPA-accredited Parkinson’s Pro course, playing a pivotal role in bridging the gap between theory and practice. Through this work, she equips physiotherapists and exercise professionals with the confidence and practical skills to use exercise as a powerful intervention for people with Parkinson’s within their communities.

Maria is a founding member of the Parkinson’s UK Excellence Network Exercise Hub, a network of over 700 healthcare and exercise professionals committed to championing physical activity for people with Parkinson’s. She also serves as Chair of the Welsh Board of the Chartered Society of Physiotherapy (CSP), ensuring rehabilitation remains firmly on the Government’s agenda.

Now, as a Director of Adaptive Fitness Training, Maria is expanding educational opportunities across a broader range of neurological conditions, supporting exercise and allied health professionals to deliver safe, effective, and evidence-based practice.

Rowan Morgan-Ruffley

Director

Rowan Morgan-Ruffley is the owner and founder of RMR Rehabilitation, a specialist adaptive personal training service dedicated to empowering individuals with neurological conditions, spinal injuries, amputations, and other complex needs. With a BTEC Diploma from City of Bath and extensive experience in exercise instruction for diverse populations, Rowan has built his career around making fitness accessible, beneficial, and tailored to individual challenges.

RMR Rehabilitation operates across the South West of England, South England, South Wales, and London, delivering adaptive personal training sessions in clients’ homes, gyms, studios, or outdoor locations. Rowan’s team of fully qualified, DBS-checked, and insured trainers work collaboratively with healthcare professionals to provide evidence-based wellness programs for both adults and children. Their client-specific approach ensures every session is adapted and tailored to meet individual needs and goals.

Drawing on his previous role as Fitness Manager at DC Leisure Management Ltd, Rowan brings leadership experience and innovative adaptive fitness strategies to his work. His professional ethos centers on collaboration, individualised care, and the belief that true fitness is inclusive fitness.

As a Director of Adaptive Fitness Training, Rowan is committed to expanding access to specialist education, helping fitness professionals across the UK develop the confidence and competence to support clients with complex health conditions.

Ali Maggs

Ali Maggs

Technical Director

Ali Maggs graduated from UWE Bristol with first-class honours in Time-Based Media (Media Production), receiving an award for film editing on the short film The Mighty Tykes and a nomination for his artificial life videogame, Melloweh. An experienced cross-platform software developer, Ali has created games, apps, educational software, and websites across multiple platforms throughout his career.

In 2008, Ali founded Chaos Created (which became Chaos Created Limited in 2013), developing acclaimed projects including Timedancer and Zombies Ate My City, both featured on BBC Click and heavily promoted by Microsoft and Nokia. The company also created Langeroo, an educational software suite for teaching English as an additional language, now used in schools across Poland, Spain, Australia, and Turkey. Chaos Created has delivered commissioned work for high-profile clients, including Tesco, Nokia, Carphone Warehouse, TeenTech, and TES.

Since 2013, Ali has regularly presented at TeenTech Festivals and runs their in-school workshops. He now serves as TeenTech’s Technical Director, managing the organisation’s technology platforms and live-streaming capabilities.

As Director of Technology at Adaptive Fitness Training, Ali brings over 20 years of technical expertise to build AFT’s complete technology infrastructure, including the website, booking system, and membership platform, while producing the organisation’s live, interactive webinars and virtual events.
